Teniers was a prolific Flemish artist who achieved international popularity and was best known for his scenes of peasant life. However, this work is an example of the breadth of his subjects. Depicting semi-clothed monkeys consuming food and drink, Teniers is commenting on men entrapped by earthly desires.

Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sulens for adopting this work.
