The initial draft of the fourth-grade curriculum was written in spring of 2018 by Zanesville City School Administrators and Educators, a grant-funded contract curriculum writer, and museum staff. The pilot program was launched that same year at National Road Elementary School and now, in 2022, the program is in all Zanesville City Schools. The ZMA hopes to expand this initiative and reach additional schools in fall 2023.
The program has been a success, drawing praise from students, instructors, and administration.
“It was my pleasure to be able to talk about what a great experience it was this past year. I am in hopes that it will be just as successful in the other two buildings.” Libby Hitchens, Principal, National Road Elementary School
“I loved it, and my kids loved it. I am excited for the updates and to do it again next year!” Samantha Newton, 4th-grade instructor, National Road Elementary School
Each year, the curriculum is realigned.
The Teaching Resource Kit or TRK is adjusted to better serve instructors. We include new works of art, new lesson plans, new vocabulary lists, and new field trip experiences that can accommodate a hundred students or more during each of the several annual visits by each school.
The Student Activity Guide is updated annually to provide a more user-friendly tool for students.
