Exploring Ohio’s history through art IMPACT
The Exploring Ohio’s History through Art 4th-grade curriculum successfully utilizes visual art from the ZMA permanent collection to teach Ohio 4th-grade social studies content standards.
During the 2020-2021 school year, due to ongoing health emergency, students enjoyed an online version of the curriculum. *Please visit HERE to view the online curriculum.

Data was complied from a sample 4th-grade class of 33 students from John McIntire Elementary.
Surveyed students demonstrated an increase in understanding of key 4th-grade social studies vocabulary and content after completing the Exploring Ohio’s History through Art online curriculum.
20 out of 33 students correctly identified a nonrenewable resource, up from 14 on the pre-assessments, showing a 42.9% increase in correct responses.
26 out of 33 students correctly identified a landform, up from 15 on the pre-assessments, showing a 73.3% increase in correct responses.
22 out of 33 students correctly identified the vocabulary word frontier, up from 8 on the pre-assessments, showing a 175% increase in correct responses.
29 out of 33 students correctly described how Ohio today is different than Ohio in the mid-1800s, up from 14 on the pre-assessments, showing a 107% increase in correct responses.
27 out of 33 students correctly identified the vocabulary word urban, up from 17 on the pre-assessments, showing a 58.8% increase in correct responses.
17 out of 33 students correctly identified an Ohio inventor and their invention, up from 1 on the pre-assessments, showing a 1600% increase in correct responses.
26 out of 33 students correctly identified the four factors of production, up from 7 on the pre-assessments, showing a 271.4% increase in correct responses.
