Girl Scout Day: Jazzy Jewelry

Work with groups of about 15 4th-6th graders in the Diverse Cultures Gallery and discuss the different types of jewelry on display.

• Zulu Love Letter Necklaces

• Egyptian Earrings

• Pair of Indian Anklets

• Nepali or Tibetan Silver and Turquoise Necklace

• Indian Hinged Case and Chain

Give group time to look around and “discover” the different pieces, have them find their favorites and discuss. Examples of discussion questions:

• What do you like about this piece?

• Is this something you would wear today? Why, why not?

• How do you think it was made?

• What do you think its purpose was?
