Guès painted highly realistic and very detailed historical scenes and portraits that reflect a reverence for the European middle ages and renaissance. Called the Troubadour Style, Guès took great care in faithfully depicting the women’s sumptuous period attire, which mimics the luxurious satin, brocade, and velvet doublet and gown worn by fashionable noblewomen during the Renaissance.
