Spend an exciting afternoon at the Zanesville Museum of Art and discover the rich pottery history of Ohio. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are invited to create several clay projects inspired by the ZMA’s extensive pottery collection and complete steps to earn badges. Activities fulfil several requirements for the Girl Scouts Brownie Potter Badge* and the Boy Scouts Pottery Merit Badge*. All materials are provided. Recommended for children ages 5 to 10.
Saturday, September 30, 1–4 pm, at the ZMA.
$15 per participant if you pre-register.

All children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults, siblings, and friends of all ages are welcome to participate in activities if they pay the registration fee. Not a scout yet? No problem. Pottery badge activities are fun for all!**
Some projects require firing and will be available for pick-up by October 14, 2023.
*Badges are not provided by the ZMA.
**All participating adults must be accompanying a scout or child under the age of 18.
Brownie Potter Badge requirements fulfilled at this program:
Step 1: Find some pottery
Step 2: Get to know clay
Step 3: Make a simple pot
Step 4: Make an art piece
Step 5: Paint and glaze
Pottery Merit Badge requirements fulfilled at this program:
Step 4: Explain the meaning of the following pottery terms: bat, wedging, throwing, leather hard, bone dry, greenware, bisque, terra-cotta, grog, slip, score, earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, pyrometric cone, and glaze.
Step 5a and 5b: Make a slab pot, a coil pot, and a pinch pot
Step 7b: Visit a museum, art exhibit, art gallery, artists’ co-op, or artist’s studio that features pottery.
This program runs from 1pm to 4pm with activity stations set up throughout the museum for you to explore at your own pace. Working through all activities takes an estimated 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
Cancellation Policy
You may cancel your registration for a full refund if the cancellation occurs before September 20, 2023. No refunds will be offered after September 20, 2023.
