This camp is currently closed. Thank you for your interest in Summer Art Camp at the ZMA!
Immerse yourself in the age-old connection between poetry and visual art. Elizabeth Christy will lead you on a journey through a creative land where you’ll be encouraged to indulge your poetic license by sculpting poems from mounds of metaphors, and painting pictures with character, wild images, leaping, voice, and repetition. These elements are to poetry what paint, pencil, clay, shading, color, carving, and drawing are to visual art. She’ll introduce you to published poets who write about artworks or write in ways that make the impossible and the magical come to life. Through different prompts and collaborations each day, you’ll discover new ways of seeing and thinking.
Because you’ll be surrounded by visual art, you’ll have a chance to respond in poetry to the pieces on display at the museum. You’ll write portrait poems, list poems, shadow and dream poems, persona poems, story poems, and more. You’ll “speak” to the artwork and let the artwork speak to you. By the end of the week, you will have enough poems to make a short book of verse.
Confirmation notices will be sent by email upon receipt of your completed registration and payment. You will be notified if the camp is full. Please print and bring your confirmation notice on the first day of class for check-in.
A parent or guardian is required to sign their child in to and out of Summer Art Camp at the museum. A sign-in form is available at the front desk. We would be happy to make alternate arrangements if another designated guardian will drop off or pick up your child. Please provide prior written notice.
Full refunds will only be granted if the program is cancelled. Scholarship recipients do not receive any refund. Please notify us immediately of any cancellations so that a child on our waiting list can attend camp.
